Art Workshop

Our creative workshops provide different creative opportunities, led by Bex, an experienced and passionate guide. Sessions explore various artistic mediums and inspire creativity often through learning about famous artists.

There’s an open invitation to experiment and learn new skills, get things wrong and try again - which all builds confidence. Most materials are provided, though learners may want to bring their own.

This is also a self-directed creative space where our young people have the choice to join the workshop or work on their own projects whilst co-creating alongside others.

History Workshop

As we explored with our young people last term what new workshops they would be excited to explore and history was high on the list. Therefore, we were delighted to connect with Lydia who will be joining us on team this year to run some exciting project based history workshops. From Lydia:

Who needs fiction when you have history?

I cannot imagine a world where I am not excited by the past. History is a labyrinth to get lost in and never want to find your out of. There are no true masters because nobody can ever know it all, but it is a subject that everyone can find something in. It is a portal we all share through the stories that bind us.

I have been blessed with wonderful teachers and mentors throughout my life, each inspired me to study history at university and train to teach it at secondary level. I have a decade of experience in a variety of school settings - beginning my career in the state sector then moving into the independent sphere. I have worked as a head of department, examiner and opened my own homeschool in Mexico in 2022. I currently work part time at a local independent school teaching history at GCSE and A level.

So, with a little extra time on my hands, I am thrilled to get involved with the homeschool community at Streams. I would like to offer an engaging, fun and challenging weekly history session. I will plan the course based on student curiosity and add kindling to those fires. My specialisms are Medieval history, American history and Civil Rights, the Middle East, The Tudors, Nazi Germany and Holocaust and the Cold War. Through storytelling, re-creation, debate, discussion, empathy and games I open the doors of the time traveller.
