Marine Science & Environmental
Management iGCSE
Our collaboration with Jake, the Humanatees Tutor, continues as we develop a hybrid learning pathway for young people.
From June 2026 to June 2027, we will be offering Marine Science iGCSE and Environmental Management iGCSE, with Jake delivering a dedicated online course for learners in the Bristol and South West area. Practical workshops for Marine Science will be delivered by the Streams Learning Hub team in the Aquarium and Science Creates. The Environmental Management will be delivered by the team at The Meadow, Bath These practical days will be on their site.
This approach combines online specialist teaching with in person learning, connected to a supportive learning community. Email Jo if you are interested to know more.

To support Jake with the online learning journey, our practical days will be facilitated by the Hub team. Lead for Marine Science is Gaz Lawrence, and Lead for Environmental Management is Claire Imhasly with support from her team at The Meadow.
Live teaching sessions take place weekly on Mondays running from June 2026 to June 2027. All sessions will be recorded for students who can’t attend live.
Marine Science: 10 - 1130am
Environmental Management: 12:30 to 2:00 pm
Jake Humanatees Tutoring is fully responsible for delivering the online sessions and taking bookings for online learning. We are excited to support this by facilitating in-person practical sessions.

Environmental Management:
The Environmental Management iGCSE has had a significant overhaul and this will be the first delivery of the exciting new course! We’re currently working on the finer details of each session, this is an overview of the fieldwork days.
Otter Brook is the perfect location for some of the key topics in the course, with its woodland, river and meadow to investigate. Our plan is to give the young people a patch of land to survey and manage over the duration of the 4 sessions. They will set goals, and then survey, analyse and implement a positive impact on the biodiversity of their area.
Throughout our sessions we’ll be practising the key skills of the course by planning investigations, collecting and analysing samples and reaching conclusions. We’ll have a focus on the Land, Water and Ecoystems sections of the course, with other aspects being woven in along the way. Fieldwork and local case studies have a much stronger emphasis in the new course and so these fieldwork days will provide excellent real experiences to inform and embed the young people’s understanding.
We’re currently liaising with a local business and university to bring in specialist ecologists to work with the young people too, who’ll contribute some real life expertise on the environment, conservation and the challenges they face.
We’re excited and can’t wait to get started!
